Four day working week for public servants –Dinesh



  • Public servants can stay at home and focus on growing food crops on Fridays
  • Four day week to be implemented from this week

The Government has decided to make Friday’s a holiday for Public Servants until further notice, Minister of Home affairs and Public Administration Dinesh Gunawardena said yesterday.   

Gunawardena told media that this will be implemented from this week.   


“ We have decided to make Fridays a holiday for all public servants because of the transportation issues that has popped up as a result of the fuel scarcity. Public servants can stay at homes and focus on growing food crops on Fridays,” he said.   


He said the fuel consumption will be reduced because of this move.   


“ We have also decided to make today ( 13th June 2022) a holiday for all public servants so that they will not have to spend their resources and come to Colombo on Monday and go back again to their villages for the Poson Holiday,” he added.
