A French couple had fallen off the moving train near tunnel 31 between Ohiya and Idalgashinna on the main line and received serious injuries. Haputale police had admitted the injured tourists to the Diyathalawa base hospital.

Investigations revealed that they were travelling from Colombo in the Badulla bound express when the young woman had fallen off the train while attempting to take a selfie while travelling on the foot board. The young man her partner had jumped off the train to save her.   

 Police said the injured couple were taken to Haputale in the same train and rushed to the Diyathalawa Base Hospital by 1990 ambulance.
