Fuel crisis worsens

Govt restricts public servants called for duty for two weeks

  • Heads of Departments can decide on the number on duty
  • Rest can work from home

The government yesterday decided to limit the number of public sector employees to be called for duty each day for two weeks starting from June 20, 2022 due to the fuel shortage that has crippled public transportation in the country.  The Public Administration Ministry issued the circular to this effect yesterday empowering the respective heads of departments to decide on the number of employees to be called for duty each working day.

Others will be given the option to work online from home. Also, these heads of departments will be authorised to liaise with the state transport services in their respective areas to arrange buses for public servants called for duty.
The circular says that the latest decision should not affect the operation of essential services.
