On the heels of the health emergency at the Matara Prison due to fever conditions, an inmate has succumbed to Meningitis (brain fever) at the Galle Prison forcing authorities to restrict various activities within the facility.

Following health guidelines, prison authorities have implemented restrictions on various activities within Matara Prison.

In a directive from the Commissioner General of Prisons, new arrivals at the Galle Prison have been redirected to the Agunukolapalassa Prison.

To adhere to health recommendations, arrangements have also been put in place to regulate and monitor visitor access as well.

A similar situation was also reported from the Matara prison two weeks ago where multiple cases of high fever were recorded with one death forcing the authorities to restrict activities within the facility.
