Gampaha reports COVID deaths again

  • Highest single-day COVID patients for 2023 reported during the weekend  
  • According to the Epidemiology Unit, a total of 16,844 COVID-19 patients have succumbed to Corona virus since the Pandemic started

Two COVID-19 related deaths were reported from the Mahara GS Division of the Gampaha District, Mahara MOH Dr. Nihal Gamage said.  
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he confirmed that the deaths are due to the infection of Corona virus.  


The deceased are a female aged 81 and a male aged 80 who are residents of Kinigama and Akbar Town GN Divisions respectively.  

Sources of health authorities of the Gampaha District confirmed to Daily Mirror that it is after one and half years that COVID-19 deaths have been reported from the district.  
Besides, the PHIs said the 81-year-old female had not received any dose of vaccines while the other had received only one dose of vaccine. The duo had been suffering from chronic diseases.  


According to the Epidemiology Unit, a total of 16,844 COVID-19 patients have succumbed to Coronavirus since the Pandemic started and there have been five COVID-19 related fatalities during the last 10 days.  


Meanwhile, the highest daily total of COVID-19 patients was reported on Saturday (06) registering 13 confirmed cases, according to the daily situation report of the Epidemiology Unit.
