Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene had summoned a special consultative committee today to discuss the gas cylinder explosions while appointment of a special select committee is also on the cards.
“Everyone including party leaders, officials of CAA and representatives of Litro Gas and Laugfs Gas must be present in Parliament for the special meeting,” he said
Earlier Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardene requested that a special consultative committee meeting be summoned today. However, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa suggested an appointment of a special select committee to probe gas cylinder explosions. “Appointment of a special select committee is a time consuming process let us call for a consultative committee initially,” Mr. Gunawardene said.
Mr. Premadasa in reply said a special select committee should be appointed as well.
Mr. Gunawardene said the government is agreeable for the appointment of a special select committee. This development comes after 11 gas cylinder explosions were reported from various areas during the last 2 days.
