With all arrangements set for the 2024 Parliamentary Election tomorrow, Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said the number of seats won by each party contesting the election will be announced by Friday, while preferential votes by Saturday.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, he said the first result is expected to be announced before 12 midnight tomorrow.
“This could either be a result of postal voting or general voting of a particular district. However, we are trying our level best to release the first result before 12 midnight,” he stated.

Meanwhile, addressing a special media briefing yesterday, the election chief said the counting of postal votes is set to commence at 4:15 p.m., with the general counting of ballots beginning around 7:15 p.m. after the ballot boxes arrive from the polling stations tomorrow.

“Official results will be provided to the media once the counting is complete,” he said.
Hence, the election chief urged media outlets to refrain from releasing unofficial election results.
