More than 500 year old Bodhi and the Cheithiya in Getambe temple ground are exposed to the danger of being eroded into the Mahaweli river. Anunayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanniya Nikaya Ven. Keppitiyaoda Siriwimala Thera said the Bodhi ground and several buildings had developed cracks and were facing the danger of collapsing into the river if protective steps were not taken immediately.

The Ven. Thera said the project costing Ra.210 million inaugurated in 2021 to erect a protective wall had been stalled for want of funds. He said the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs and Mahaweli Development who carried out an inspection recently promised to complete the project.
