Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said yesterday the Registrar of Pesticides, who issued the Gazette prohibiting the ban on Glyphosate, was removed from his post, and instructed the officials to reinstate the Glyphosate ban.

He told Parliament that it was illegal for the Registrar of Pesticides to issue such a gazette notification going against the policy of the Government.

He said a disciplinary inquiry was underway against this official over his involvement in an act of importing chemical pesticides.

“This official had earlier submitted proposals to the Cabinet being partial to one chemical fertiliser company. He had done that twice. He has a pending disciplinary inquiry against him,” he said.   The Minister said the ban on Glyphosate would continue to be in effect.
