Gota Go Gama Kandy marks 50 days

Gota Go Gama Kandy marked 50 days yesterday (Sunday) with mass demonstrations taking place in the town.
A large crowd gathered in Kandy to extend support to Gota Go Gama and put pressure on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down.

A number of people involved in the protest at Galle Face were also in Kandy yesterday to support the Gota Go Gama campaign in Kandy.

One of the demonstrators in Kandy told Daily Mirror that the contribution enjoyed by the Gota Go Gama campaign has seen a drop in recent days.

However, he said the demonstrators are reorganizing and a “second wave” of protests can be expected soon.
A monk who travelled to Kandy from Colombo to support the Gota Go Gama campaign told Daily Mirror that religious leaders have joined hands for one common goal.

He said that the push for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down will continue.
“We also came here from Colombo to call on Sri Lanka to unite and live as one country,” he said.
A Muslim religious leader who also attended the demonstration in Kandy yesterday called on the public to take to the streets and push for change.

“This struggle can be won only if you take to the streets. Staying at home won’t help,” he said.
Activists speaking at Gota Go Gama Kandy yesterday insisted that the campaign is not linked to any political party.

The Gota Go Gama campaign at Galle Face had also completed 50 days recently.
