Government has imposed a meaningless lockdown – GMOA

The Covid-19 vaccination programme is a failure as it has no control over the current situation

  • The vaccination is not handled by the Govt. Epidemiology Unit as it should be
  • Present lockdown will gain no benefit but negative impact on economy

Saying that the government has imposed a meaningless lockdown, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday said if the Covid-19 vaccination programme was successful, the country would not have had to face the current situation.

President GMOA Dr. Rukshan Bellana told the media that the vaccination programme does not seem successful due to the increasing number of patients being infected and the death rate rapidly increasing. “If Covid had been under control with the vaccine, we would not have had to face the current situation,” he said.   Dr. Bellana went on to say that the vaccine programme alone in Sri Lanka was commenced late and its mechanism is unsuccessful. “The vaccination programme is not even handled by the competent authority, which is the Government Epidemiology Unit but its control has gone into some other hands,” he said.  “The second dose of certain vaccines had been given after months, when it is advised to be given within a designated period to reap the full benefits of one’s immunity.
