Government will conduct a fresh probe on the Channel 4 video on Easter Sunday attacks and it has been proposed to appoint a select committee for the purpose, Minister Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament yesterday.

Responding to a question raised by SJB MP Hector Appuhamy, the Minister said the cabinet had made this decision following the announcement made by Channel 4 on putting out a video on the Easter Sunday attacks. “An international level probe will also be conducted if necessary. The announcement on appointing a select committee will be made shortly,” he added.   “It is natural that videos come out as and when UNHRC takes up violence and human rights violations in Sri Lanka. One may recall that the Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith publicly requested the people to vote for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa . Therefore one wonders whether he was also involved in the Easter Sunday attacks,” he also said.
