Govt. agrees to settle teachers’ salary anomalies



  • Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa assured the unions that the anomalies would be settled in one go
  • The 160 day struggle to win our demands has ended in success

Government had agreed to settle the salary anomalies of teachers and principals at once rather than paying it in three instalments, Teacher union leaders said yesterday.    

Ceylon Teacher Services Union President Mahinda Jayasinghe told journalists that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa assured the unions that the anomalies would be settled in one go  


 “ The 160 day struggle to win our demands has ended in a success” Jayasinghe said.  


“ Both Prime Minister and Finance Minister informed us of the government’ s decision during a meeting held at parliamentary premises” he added.  


 Ceylon Teachers Union President Joseph Stalin also expressed the same sentiments and rated that their struggle was a success.   Both trade union leaders said they will continue the struggle to win other demands.    


‘ we have managed to win our main demand,” Stalin said.
