An all party conference is not needed if the government makes right decisions towards arresting the current COVID-19 pandemic, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said yesterday.

We have asked for an all party conference because the government does not seem to be taking the right kind of decisions to arrest the pandemic. We don’t want to get involved in government decision-making if proper decisions are made,” Field Marshal Fonkeka told a press conference.

Field Marshal Fonseka welcomed the remarks made by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who said that the President and the Cabinet should directly handle affairs pertaining to the pandemic. “Mr. Wickremesinghe comes up with right suggestions at times, “ he added.

Meanwhile former Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne who spoke at a press conference later said that the cabinet taking over responsibilities on the pandemic will not help as long as advise of the health experts are not followed. “People such as Professor Tissa Vitharana who holds a PHD in virology is not called for any discussion as the higher authorities have to listen to him if he is called for any talks,” the MP said.
