The Government which came to power promising to rule the country on scientific methods was now doing the complete opposite, shattering the hopes of all the people, National Peoples’ Power (NPP) said yesterday.

NPP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that people who voted Gotabaya Rajapaksa expected him to rule the country on scientific methods with the help of experts and professionals of the “Viyathmaga”, discipline the country, ensure national security and stop selling state property to foreigners.

He said the government has become the most unscientific government to rule the country ever, where some Ministers were seen to be acting even without common sense.

“The Government started to face the COVID pandemic by promoting myths such as syrups rather than giving priority to vaccines. They promised to allocate ministries on a scientific basis. However, some Ministers are seen acting even without common sense. Experts and professionals have been sidelined and only family members of the Rajapaksa’s and their crooked businessmen are dominating today. Namal Rajapaksa has been entrusted with the task of monitoring the vaccination drive when professionals such as State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle have been sidelined,” he said.

He said the government came to power to put a stop to privatisation and to take over the state property sold by the previous government and added that it was now doing the complete opposite where they were enacting laws and approving Cabinet Papers to sell commercial lands and state property to foreign countries and companies.
Mr. Silva said the government had shown its unscientific approach in every sector today where the farmers were facing a crisis due to banning of chemical fertiliser without introducing a proper mechanism to produce organic fertiliser.

He said it was likely that the government was not getting the compensation from the X-Press Pearl vessel as expected as the government had not assigned professionals to handle these matters.
