Govt. should allow commemoration of victims of war : Eran

Government should allow the commemoration of those who died during the Sri Lankan conflict without suppressing the right, which the relatives have to commemorate their loved ones who died in the war, an SJB MP said yesterday. 

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Eran Wickramaratne told a press conference that allowing the commemoration of those who died in a war is something, which the government should do in order to ensure favourable results at the upcoming UNHRC sessions.   


“There are instances where programmes to commemorate those who died due the war have been stopped in the recent past. However, the government should see to it that the rights of the relatives of those who died in the war are safeguarded,” he said.   


“Government should take concrete steps to stop sex and gender based violence and also to safeguard GSP plus facility. The Sri Lankan economy will be severely affected if GSP plus is lost as Sri Lanka will lose the two-billion euro market in Europe in such an event,” he added.   


The MP also urged the government to manage the economy effectively. He
