A group of 67 illegal emigrants who attempted to migrate to Australia by sea were arrested yesterday by the Sri Lanka Navy during a raid in the sea off Kalmunai.   

A team of officers of the Eastern Command patrolling the sea had sighted the multi-day trawler overloaded with passengers.   

The group included 53 men, six women and eight children. From Mannar, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Mullaitivu areas.  They were handed over to Trincomalee Harbour Police for further action.
