A group of expatriate workers staying in Kuwait who had  been deported for want of Visas arrived at the Katunayake International  Airport in the early hours of yesterday on temporary passports issued by  the Sri Lankan Embassy. It included 59 housemaids and three male  employees.

A spokesman for the Sri Lankan Embassy said they had  sneaked away from the houses where they were employed and earning about  Kuwait Dinar 250 per month by working under other employers and staying  in hostels without a valid visa.

They had registered with the Sri Lankan Embassy to return  to the country on the ground of sickness, advanced age, and family  problems. The spokesman said more than 2,000 similar expatriates had  registered with the Embassy.
