The number of incidents related to lighting of firecrackers usually increases during every festive season in the country and people should keep in mind to minimise those accidents, National Hospital, Colombo Chief Nurse Training Officer Pushpa Ramya De Soyza said.

She told the media that adults should keep in mind not to light firecrackers while holding them in their hands.

“Do not let small children light fire crackers,” De Soyza said. “A younger child should be allowed to light the crackers only under the supervision of their parents,” De Soyza said. She also told the people to keep in mind not to bathe in rivers, and streams considering the heavy showers in certain parts of the country.
