Hearing of Sashi Weerawansa bail application postponed for today

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe yesterday postponed for today to hear the bail application filed in the Colombo Chief Magistrates Court by the Counsel for Sashi Weerawansa, the wife of Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa,  Sashi Weerawansa had filed the bail application through her lawyers before Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala on Friday (27) against her two-year jail term imposed on her by presiding Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala. 

 After considering the request yesterday Magistrate Amarasinghe adjourned the case till today and ordered the Court Registrar to send notice to the Attorney General to appear before court today to ascertain facts of the case and to file if any objections by the  Attorney General against granting bail to Sashi Weerawansa.  


Sashi Weerawansa was sentenced to two years imprisonment after she was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining a diplomatic passport by  submitting falsified documents to the Department of Immigration and  Emigration.  
Counsel Shavendra Fernando PC on Friday moved in court to remand custody accused Shashi Weerawansa pending an appeal. The court allowed  the request
