Heavy rain lashes central hills

The western slopes of the central hills have experienced  heavy rain since Sunday night, resulting in the spilling over of  Wimalasurendra hydropower reservoir again.   


The roads are shrouded in a thick mist, obstructing the clear view of the roads.    A stretch of the main Norton Bridge – Maskeliya highway  had eroded last morning at Kiriwaneliya Pathan area, causing obstructions  to traffic.   
Police requested the drivers to avoid the weak verge of the  road on the slope. Norton Bridge Police announced that several  locations in Hatton – Nuwara Eliya and Hatton –Colombo highways were  slippery and endangered by erosion and earth slips.  

 Meanwhile, a farmer working in a paddy field in the Galewela  area who was struck by lightning had died on admission to Galewela  Hospital. Investigations revealed that he had been working in the paddy  field during heavy rain.   


The victim M.A.Somatilleka (60) was a resident of Bulagala in Dambulla.   


Civilian life in the Mullaitivu District has been  disrupted due to the heavy rain and flood threat caused by heavy rain  experienced for the last several days   


The roads in Pudukudirippu, Manduvil, Maulliyawalai and  Maritayapattu areas had been submerged causing obstructions of traffic.
