A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining sea areas and is likely to develop further and move west-northwestwards gradually during the next few days resulting in showers and thundershowers in several parts of the country, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
The DMC, which quoted the Department of Meteorology said yesterday naval and fishing communities operating in the sea in the Bay of Bengal were advised to be vigilant in this regard.
Showers or thundershowers were expected at times in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and fairly heavy falls about 50 mm can be expected at some places. Several spells of showers are expected to occur in Western and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Wind speed will be (30-40) Kmph in the western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. “However wind speed can increase up to 50Kmph at times in these areas,” the Department of Meteorology said.
