• The injured woman and her two children are out of danger

A car that sped away after knocking down a woman, and her two children riding on a motorcycle had veered off the road and crashed into a wayside tree at Angunuwila in Mundalama on Sunday evening (13).   

  One of the passengers on board the car died on the spot and the driver received serious injuries. The deceased Atanpola Arachchilage Samson Nihal (61) from Angunuwila in Mundalama. The car was driven by one of his relatives who was also seriously injured and was admitted in critical condition to the Chilaw General Hospital.   
 Police suspect the two individuals would have been under the influence of liquor and that they had lost control of the car due to excessive speed.   

Meanwhile the woman and her two children (2 and 6) who were knocked down were admitted to the Mundalama hospital. A spokesman for the hospital said they were out of danger.   

 OIC Traffic Branch Sergeant Kumarasinghe is conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Mundalama Police CI Asitha Lakruwan.
