Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith yesterday said the church was praying that Sri Lanka would get new leaders who would take the nation towards prosperity in 2024.  
“We have to love our motherland. This is a beautiful country. We have got that blessing from 

the Lord.
We hope that everyone in the country will work for the common good of the society and emancipate the nation from poverty and all kinds of inadequacies.” 

Cardinal Ranjith said in his New Year Message.  “Our country had got poorer during the last 50 to 60 years. Country had become a ship drifting from side to side. 

We hope for prosperity in 2024.We hope for new leaders who would take the nation towards prosperity,” he added in his message.
