A tense situation erupted yesterday when thousands of students from the Inter University Students Federation who marched into Colombo calling on the government to resign had surrounded the Prime Minister’s residence at Wijerama Road.  The protesters numbering in thousands chanting slogans for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the government to resign due to the ongoing crisis.   Hundreds of police officers had been deployed outside the residence.
