Investigations into the controversial illegally imported Hummer vehicle has been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by the State Finance Ministry.

Secretary of the State Ministry Mahinda Siriwardena has forwarded a written request to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) informing the CID to investigate the incident, on the advice of State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
The Hummer was illegally imported into Sri Lanka on February 22 last year, and later it was impounded.
However, the high-luxury vehicle was later auctioned at a public auction, in which the concerned SUV was bought by the importer himself.

Earlier, the State Minister had requested the Director General of Customs to submit a report regarding the malpractice.
