Hydropower reservoirs filling up

Water levels in the Castlereagh and Maussakelle reservoirs have been rising following heavy rainfall experienced on the western slopes and the central hills.  

Engineers In Charge of the reservoirs said the dam in the Castlereagh reservoir was 155ft and the water level stood at 113.57ft (73.27%) and that of the Maussakelle reservoir was 120ft and the water level stood at 43.29ft (36.8%) by last morning.  


Engineers said the Laxapana, New Laxapana, Wimalasurendra and Polpitiya hydropower complexes are fed by the two reservoirs. They said the maximum power generation of the complexes was 350 megawatts and at present they were contributing 240 megawatts to the national grid.
