President Ranil Wickremesinghe said he has directed the Inspector General of Police to strictly enforce the law against people who interfere with fuel queues.   

He said in his policy statement that there are groups spreading violence near fuel stations.   

“Complaints are being received about people breaking the queue by force, without allowing people who have been in the queue for days to obtain fuel,” he said.   

The President said such unruly conduct cannot be allowed and that the limited amount of fuel that can be provided must be fairly distributed.
