The Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D Wickramaratna has expressed regret over the incident in which a verbal exchange had taken place between police officers and several army personnel attached to a Army motorcycle squad at the roadblock near the Parliament complex during a public protest on Tuesday, police said.

An investigation was launched on Tuesday after Army Commander General Shavendra Silva requested the IGP to conduct an inquiry into the incident.  The incident took place when the Army motorcycle squad attempted to ride their motorcycles despite the police barricades being set up to prevent protesters entering towards parliament.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defense had also requested the IGP and the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security to take immediate action in this regard.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said an investigation is already underway and further action will be taken according to the outcome of the probe.
