If the risk of Covid rises globally, it will affect us: Dr. Ginige

By Chathuranga Samarawickrama

If the risk of the Covid virus increases globally, it will also affect our country, and the number of reported positive cases will also increase, which will cause an increase in the number of deaths, Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige said.

Addressing the media about the latest information on the Covid virus at the Health Ministry today, he said that it has been observed that there is a considerable decrease in the reporting of the number of Covid positive cases globally.

Similar to the global situation, there is a decrease in the reported number of positive cases in our country as well. During the past two to three weeks, fewer than 20 positive cases were reported daily.

Therefore, Dr. Ginige requested the people not to be complacent that the pandemic situation has been permanently eliminated.

He emphasized that the vaccination roll out was very helpful in controlling the pandemic and requested people to get their vaccines as soon as possible to prevent the infection getting worse.
