A state minister yesterday vowed that immediate measures would be taken to repair the entrance road to Kotmale Reservoir, where a large sinkhole had appeared.
State Minister of Estate Housing and Community Infrastructure Jeevan Thondaman said yesterday that he contacted the Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando on phone and described the situation.
A sinkhole had appeared yesterday morning on the main entrance road to the Kotmale Reservoir close to the dam and the State Minister went to inspect the area.
The sinkhole on the road close to the dam is around six feet deep and the Engineers in charge of the reservoir said that this may have appeared due to a blockage of an underground stream and this had no impact on the dam wall.
He said that the Minister advised him to take immediate measures to repair the road.
Senior Police officers and Army officers of the area also inspected the area.
