Implement political reforms proposed by BASL from next week - NMSJ

The National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) led by Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday called for the immediate implementation of the proposals put forward by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) and to implement what is possible in Parliament next week.   


“What the BASL has proposed could be implemented soon and we urge the government to implement at least a part of it in Parliament next week,” Mr. Jayasuriya told a press conference.   


BASL proposes that the Government immediately introduce the 21st Amendment to the Constitution by repealing the provisions of the 20th Amendment and restoring the 19th Amendment, establishment of an Interim Government of National Unity consisting of 15 Cabinet Ministers, appointment of a suitable person as the Prime Minister and to make use of a national list MP to facilitate the entry into Parliament of an individual who meets this criteria, appointment of an independent Advisory Council consisting of 15 qualified professionals from disciplines, preparation of a Common Minimum Program (CMP) in consultation with the Advisory Council.
