Emphasising that the Government is determined to implement recommendations of the Presidential Commission that probed the serial bombings on 2019 Easter Sunday, the governing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said tangible progress would be visible in this regard by April 21.
Making his remarks to the media at a regular press conference, its chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris said the report contained lots of valuable recommendations, and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had directed the relevant state institutions to act upon them with due seriousness.
He said 99 persons had been arrested in connection with the bombing incidents. Besides, action has been taken to arrest 35 persons living abroad with links to the attacks here. Investigations have been completed regarding 36 cases.
The Minister said instructions had been given to refer to files related to such investigations to the Attorney General for prosecution.
“There is chapter-wise analysis of each incident with the mention of names of those involved. It is a matter for the Police to initiate investigations into them. The Police have been directed to refer progress into them to the Attorney General,” he said.
