Import of 6,000 swords Two special CID teams appointed for the inquiry

The Attorney General’s (AG) Department yesterday informed the Court of Appeal that two special Police teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) had been deployed to investigate the import of 6,000 swords during the period of the Easter Sunday terror attack. 

When the writ petition filed by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith seeking an order from the security forces to conduct a formal inquiry into the above  matter, representing the AG’s Department, Senior State Counsel (SSC) Dr. Awanthi Perera informed Court that the two teams of CID officers had been appointed under the instructions of Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremaratne.  Accordingly, the bench comprising Court of Appeal Justices Arjuna Obeysekera and Mayadunne Corea postponed hearing of the petition till May 06.
