Import of non essential food items Experts raise concerns



  • Importers should limit import of non essential food items whose substitutes are manufactured locally
  • SL is currently facing its worst ever financial crisis 

 Experts have raised concerns regarding the import of non essential food items such as chocolates, apples, oranges and pasta despite the country being hit by the foreign exchange crisis.   

According to them, such items are non-essential in nature, and importers should prioritise the import of essentials. They said importers should limit import of non essential food items whose substitutes are manufactured locally.   
Sri Lanka is currently facing its worst ever financial crisis.
