Indian HC briefs TNA on outcome of President’s visit to India

• Indian envoy asserts need for implementation of 13A and early conduct of PC elections

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay yesterday briefed the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) about the outcome of the bilateral discussions between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi recently, a source said.   

The High Commissioner also briefed them about connectivity projects.   

Asked about the meeting, TNA MP M. A. Sumanthiran told Daily Mirror that the Indian envoy asserted the need for the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and the early conduct of elections to the provincial councils.   

Commenting on the President’s stand that it would be implemented sans police powers, he said it is already in the Constitution and therefore it is ‘absurd’ for the President to make such remarks .
