Whilst stating that the inflation rate which is currently 14 percent will come down to a single digit by end of this month, two senior Presidential advisers urged the opposition not to jeopardize economic stability which the country has currently achieved.

Speaking during the UNP Balamandala meeting in Akuressa , Senior Presidential adviser Ruwan Wijewardene said the opposition should not try to gain political mileage by arousing fear among the people. “We request the opposition not to arouse fear among the people. They try to gain political mileage out of such exercises. The opposition is only interested in gaining power,” he said.

He recalled that the country’s economy had been revived with great difficulty.

Presidential Adviser Sagala Ratnayake said the inflation rate which is was as high as 70 percent had come down to 14 percent now. “This is expected to be a single digit figure by the end of this month,” he said.

“ It is essential to reduce interest rates to help small and medium industries(SMEs). The General public also could benefit from the development of SMEs. President is currently making an effort to achieve these goals,” Ratnayake said.

Also he said people should not focus on public sector employment but should focus on private sector as well.

UNP Akuressa Organizer Dinouk Colombage said all must support President Ranil Wickremesinghe to revive the nation.
