  • Fuel in cans will not be available on April 12, 13 and 14

The sale of petrol and diesel in plastic or any other cans at filling stations will be suspended for three days from tomorrow (12), Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe said.

Accordingly, fuel in cans will not be available on April 12, 13 and 14 he said.

The decision was taken after considering the information revealed about frauds conducted over collecting fuel stocks at individual places and stopping reselling the collected diesel and petrol at higher prices.
Accordingly, people have no legal authority to store extra diesel and petrol stocks at home.
During the past four days, the CPC has distributed 35,000MT of diesel around the country. Nearly 10,000MT of diesel was distributed yesterday (10). Nearly 10,000MT was distributed on Saturday (9).

“The daily consumption of diesel is 5,500 MT. However, the daily diesel consumption during the first week of April has increased to 7,500 MT, “he said.

However, no restrictions were made on the issue of required kerosene stocks.

For any fuel needed for agricultural purposes, those individuals should request for their stocks through the respective area Agriculture Research Officer, Regional Agrarian Services Officer, and Grama Niladhari. Required fuel stocks will be granted for manufacture by service companies following permission from the respective Divisional Secretary.
