It is not possible to safeguard rule of law in a nation without the police and the judiciary, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said over the weekend.  “ It is essential to safeguard the rule of law and democracy of a nation if that nation is to be economically developed,” the President said at the 156th Police Day held in Colombo.  

 “ It is also essential to safeguard the legislature of a nation to ensure rule of law,” he said whilst expressing his gratitude to police who helped in preventing the protesters from entering into the parliamentary complex during recent protests.   Police officer Jayantha Gunawardene who was killed during action was awarded the police heroic award while 30 policemen who safeguarded parliamentary complex during the recent protests were also rewarded during the ceremony.  


New website of Sri Lankan police and newsletter e-news was also launched to mark the occasion.
