Japan assures maximum possible support for economic recovery



  • Sri Lanka assures equal treatment to all creditors

  • The Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs is on an official visit to participate in the 75th Independence  Anniversary of Sri Lanka

Visiting Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs Taki Shunsuke is reported to have said that the Japanese government will continue to extend its ‘maximum possible support’ to stabilize Sri Lanka’s economy.  


 State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe told Daily Mirror that he held talks with the visiting Japanese minister.  


“I assured him that Sri Lanka will ensure equal, transparent treatment to all the countries in its debt restructuring process,” he said.   


Japan is one of the largest bilateral creditors to Sri Lanka and a member of the Paris club.   


The Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs is on an official visit to the island to participate in the 75th Independence Anniversary of Sri Lanka.  


Minister Semasinghe said Sri Lanka would seek further engagement with China at the highest level for further assurances.
