Jeewan leaves National Council



SLPP’s Rameshwaran appointed in his place

The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) has left the National Council which was appointed recently, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced yesterday.   

The Speaker said SLPP MP M.Rameshwaran had been appointed in place of MP Jeewan Thondaman who left the council.   


In addition MP Patali Champika Ranawaka has also been appointed to the council.   


The National Council has the power to call up reports from cabinet Ministers, Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), Public Finance Committee and new committees, which are to be appointed including ways and means committee, Committee on Economic Stabilization.   


The committee has jurisdiction to determine the general priorities of Parliament, to guide the formation of short, medium and long term national policies and to agree on a short, medium and programmes to stabilize the economy.
