Joe Biden steps down from election race

  • Endorses Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee

U.S. President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday after fellow Democrats lost faith in his mental acuity and ability to beat Donald Trump, leaving the presidential race in uncharted territory, the foreign media reported.
Mr. Biden, in a post on X, said he will remain in his role as President and Commander-in-chief until his term ends in January 2025 and will address the nation this week.
It comes four months before Americans go to the polls, upending the race for the White House.

It follows weeks of intense pressure from fellow Democrats after a faltering debate performance against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June.
In a letter posted to his social media account, he said it had been the greatest honour of his life to serve as President, according to the BBC.
Joe Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee in his place, saying on social media, ‘Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year’.
