Joseph Stalin remanded till August 12

Key aragalaya activist and trade union leader Joseph Stalin, who was arrested by the Fort Police on Wednesday was ordered to be remanded until August 12th when he was produced before Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage last evening.   

Ceylon Teachers’ Union Secretary Joseph Stalin was taken into custody by a police team at Education Trade Union office ‘Gurumedura’ in Fort and he was detained overnight at the Fort Police Station.   


Both Stalin and aragalaya frontline activist Koswatte Mahanama Thera were then taken away from the Fort Police to Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage’s residence in Maharagama last evening where they were produced.   
Stalin had been charged for violating a court order and participating in a protest march held at Bank of Ceylon Mawatha last May 28th.   


Meanwhile, Koswatte Mahanama Thera was also ordered to be remanded till today.
