The Cabinet should be rearranged in accordance with the urgent need of fighting the current pandemic and re-building the battered economy, a leading university don said yesterday.

Professor of Accounting and Information Systems Kennedy Gunawardene of Sri Jayewardenepura University told a press conference held at the Opposition Leader’s Office that at least five ministers should be appointed for the task of combatting the pandemic. “One Minister should be put in charge of purchasing vaccines, another in charge of getting down medical equipment and also there should be a ministry which is totally in charge of attracting direct investments. Some ministries should be abolished temporarily,” Professor Gunawardene said. “It is also essential to revive the cooperative system that was existing in villages in the past so that it would be easier to distribute essential commodities among the people,” he added.
