July Dengue cases reach highest in four months

The number of dengue cases in Sri Lanka for the month of July has surged to the highest level seen in the past four months, according to the Epidemiology Unit.  With 3,944 cases recorded, the figures show a significant increase compared to previous months.   

In June, there were 3,319 cases, May saw 2,647, and April had 2,234 cases, while March recorded 3,615 cases.  

Furthermore, the cumulative total of dengue cases reported for 2024 has now surpassed the 32,000 mark.  

As of July 27, the total number of cases for the year stands at 32,183. The Colombo district reported the highest number of cases, amounting to 7,585.  

Province-wise, the Western Province leads with 12,786 cases.    The recent spike in July has raised concerns among health officials, who are urging the public to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to combat the spread of dengue.  

So far, 2024 has seen 13 deaths related to dengue
