Former Speaker and Head of National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) Karu Jayasuriya yesterday said he is willing to consider taking over the premiership for a limited period.
“I am willing to accept the premiership for a limited period if I am called upon to serve the country. I am willing to play a role in the government for a period of one year and then the country can go for an election,” he told Daily Mirror.
“The country has plunged into an unfortunate situation with the attacks on protesters. We do not know what would become of the nation with people defying the law despite curfew.
Something should have been done to put the nation on the right track much earlier,” he said.
He said no one has officially requested him to take over the premiership, however it was reported that SJB MP Mayantha Dissanayake will resign from Parliament for Mr. Jayasuriya to come into Parliament.
