Katina Perahera not allowed due to Covid-19



  • Maximum 20 participants for a Katina Cheevara Pooja
  • Only noon alms and religious sermons

The Buddhist Affairs Department issued a circular yesterday announcing that permission will not be granted to conduct Katina Perahera’s due to the ongoing COVID pandemic.   

Department Commissioner General Sunanda Kariyapperuma said the health guidelines on this were issued by the Health Services Director General.   


Accordingly, a maximum of 20 devotees will be allowed during Katina Cheevara Pooja with noon alms and religious sermons.
