Due to the lack of “Naphtha” to operate the Kelanithissa Power Station (KPS), it might be disabled from today (13), Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman Nalinda Ilangakoon said.
He said that the plant has enough naphtha to operate until today and also mentioned that the petroleum corporation is ready to release naphtha only for cash in hand.
He further said that the Electricity Board is negotiating with the authorities to find money to pay the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to buy the naphtha needed to operate the plant.
If they can give some money this afternoon or so, the naphtha will be received.
KPS produces about 165 MW for the national electricity grid.
