In a historic move towards sustainable energy, Rividhanavai (Private) Limited and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) entered into a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a groundbreaking 100MW solar PV project at Siyambalanduwa yesterday .
This milestone venture stands as the first large-scale solar initiative in Sri Lanka, symbolizing a pivotal shift towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
At the forefront of this transformative project, Lakdhanavi Limited is the lead partner of the consortium which includes Windforce PLC and The Blue Circle Pte Limited. This collaborative effort is strategically designed to leverage Lakdhanavi’s local expertise alongside international prowess.
With a more than 28 years of track record as the pioneer and largest power plant developer in Sri Lanka, Lakdhanavi Limited brings a wealth of experience in the development and management of power projects. Their leadership in this consortium underscores their commitment to steering the nation towards a cleaner, greener future with the development of large-scale renewable power projects.
The Solar Park facility, spanning over 220 hectares in the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat area in the Monaragala District, will employ cutting-edge photovoltaic technology with battery storage. In addition to the solar park, this mega project consists of construction of a new 27km 132kV transmission line, a new 132kV grid substation in Siyambalanduwa and augmentation of the 132kV grid substation in Monaragala. The project represents a 150 million USD investment and is expected to be connected to the national grid by mid-2025.
The solar park’s capacity to generate 100 MW of clean, renewable energy is a significant stride towards achieving the Sri Lankan government’s target of 70% power generation from renewables by 2030.
