More than 50 lands in Colombo city and elsewhere are to be sold out to foreign countries such as India, China and Switzerland to earn much needed foreign currency, Samagi Jana Balawegaya charged yesterday.
SJB MP Rajitha Senaratne and Eran Wickramaratne who made this claim at a press conference said Sri Lankans will be able to see foreigners residing in these lands in the near future.
“Five MoUs have already been signed to hand over some of these lands. Some of these lands which are to be sold out include the land where Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre is located, Sathosa stores, a land in Narahenpita, Thummulla and Orugodawatte,” Dr. Senaratne said.
He said one cannot blame the COVID-19 for the economic down turn. es have been decreased by 1.5 billion,” he said.
MP Wickramaratne said the previous government cannot be blamed for the economic down turn as that government had to borrow to pay back what was borrowed prior to 2015.
Also it was alleged by the SJB that the Trincomalee oil tanks and some islands in the north are to be handed over to India in exchange for funds borrowed to purchase essential food items and medicine.
